Denis Auguste Marie Raffet (French 1804-1860 ) Watercolor painting on paper, Group of men, possibly Turks or Egyptians, smoking. Stamped "Raffet (San Donato)" lower left, with another stamped monogram (HG) lower right, a further indistinct pencil inscription lower right. Number upper right (195) Notation on the reverse of the framed piece states "(Hector) Giacomelli Collection Catalogue Raffet by Giacomelli." Wood framed and glazed. 5.5lbs Giacomelli, a French watercolorist, engraver and illustrator, is best known for his paintings of birds. While in Paris, he developed a passion for the work of Auguste Raffet, whose catalogue of works he published in 1862. Approx.
