Clare Brown (American), untitled painted collage, ca. 2000s. A vibrant painted collage on illustration board featuring excerpts from Carlo Goldoni's play entitled, "La Bottega del Caffe" (The Coffee House, 1970 - a comedic criticism of the 18th century Venetian bourgeousie), gestural painted passages of bright orange, sky blue, and lush terracotta hues, three painted teal strips, cursive writing in gold and black, a section of upside down printed lettering at the upper right, a drawing of a robot at the upper left, a drawing of a geodesic form to the right of it, and a drawing of pouring vessels at the lower right. In addition to being an artist, Clare Brown has also designed history and art exhibitions for the Museum of the City of New York, the New-York Historical Society, the Newseum, and the National Museum of American History. These include the First Ladies Gowns collection (2009, 2011) and the Julia Child's Kitchen installations at the Smithsonian Institution. Size: 14" W x 17" H (35.6 cm x 43.2 cm)
