Description
**Originally Listed At $250**
Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. This is a lovely compact mirror and cosmetic holder made from high quality and sterling silver. The round lid contains a relief image of the Hindu-Buddhist goddess Manimekhala, flying through stylized spiral clouds with an orb in her hand that is shooting out beams to represent lightening. She wears the traditional spire headdress and pantaloons or sompot chong kben, but her ample breasts are bare. The compact lid opens on a hinge, revealing the mirror inside and a second lid that covers the slightly recessed cosmetic pan. Both lids click firmly shut and this compact is perfect to fill with your favorite highlighter or blush to be as radiant as Manimekhala's lightening crystal. The inner lip is also stamped "STERLING SIAM." Size: 3.125" Diameter x 0.4" W (7.9 cm x 1 cm); silver quality 90.6% to 92.51%; weight: 84.9 grams
Provenance: ex-Davis collection, Houston, Texas, acquired before 2013 from various auction houses in London and New York
