A collection of 58 congratulation letters to Gilbert Elliott (1800?1891), from 1850, for the reading of his speech regarding the late appointments of the Pope and Papal aggression. Including ladies, lords, bishops, Archbishop of Canterbury and York, and others; good read on the issues of the day. The Very Reverend Gilbert Elliot was Dean of Bristol from 1850?1891. The Dean of Bristol is the head of the Chapter of the Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity, Bristol, England.
Condition
Letters are mostly in good condition with wear from going through the post. Some staining, some paper loss. Letters vary. Envelopes generally measure: h. 5", w. 3"
