Description
First is a late 19th to early 20th century heavily lacquered press board pencil container having three compartments and a selection of books and designs painted on the top and sides of which was made to imitate them perched on a shelf with names of authors such as, Mark Twain, Shakespeare, Milton, Byron, Dickens, Walter Scott, Burns, Longfellow and Lew Wallace. Second is a late 19th century three compartment pencil holder with a swiveling top and sliding cover.
Condition
The first has a piece missing at lip of the front cover, running 5.75'' and continuing around the front left corner by.375'', paint has some wear from use but mostly complete with bright colors. There are two old labels on the bottom with some first box: h. 8", w. 2.25"; second box: h. 9",w. 2.25"
