President Abraham Lincoln signed appointment document dated March 21, 1861. Appointment of Calvin Hudson of New York be the Commissioner of the United States of which to advocate claims of U.S. citizens over Costa Rica, making him the first consulate there appointed by President Lincoln. Signed by Abraham Lincoln. Framed with a large illustration of Lincoln for nice presentation.

Boldly signed by President Abraham Lincoln and Secretary of State William Seward, the document has been previously folded with the fold line and some field areas affected by foxing which touch Lincoln's and Seward signatures on a letter or document visible w. 18.75" h. 13.75", frame W. 35.5" h. 21.5"
