Description
GRENFELL FOLK ART FIGURAL PICTORIAL HOOKED MATS, LOT OF TWO, dyed silk or rayon stocking and wool materials, comprising a rectangular-form example, depicting a hunter wearing snowshoes and holding a rifle over the shoulder, the background lined with fir trees, mounted in fabric on a wooden frame; and a circular example, featuring a polar bear on a sheet of ice in the middle of water. Each reverse with applied "Grenfell Labrador Industries" label. Grenfell Mission, Northern Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Circa 1930. Rectangular mat 7 1/8" x 9 1/2"; circular mat 12" D.

Condition
Rectangular mat in mostly very good overall condition with light toning and fading/fugitive color, a few losses, a tear to top proper right corner; circular mat in fair overall condition with toning, fading/fugitive color, some losses to fabric, edges cut and fraying.
