GRENFELL FOLK ART MAP PICTORIAL HOOKED MAT / SMALL RUG, dyed silk or rayon stocking material, depicting a map of Newfoundland, featuring a spouting whale, a sailing vessel, and buildings, figure head in the upper right to represent the North Wind, lower left with compass rose, all encompassed by a brown frame border. Reverse with applied "Grenfell Labrador Industries" label. Grenfell Mission, Northern Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada; design attributed to Valda Vaughn, Brooklyn, NY. Circa 1938. 13" x 15".
