Description
The long panel comprises two narrow panels sewn together, with silver embroidery on light blue silk, bordered by brocade ribbon. 43 3/4in x 9 3/4in; 45in x 10 3/4in (frame). Condition: light soiling/fading; there may have been appliques that are now missing, as there are small circular spots where the silk is less faded (?). FROM THE FAMILY OF REV. CHARLES HARTWELL (1825-1905) and Lucy Estabrook Stearns Hartwell (1827-1883); their children Charles Stearns Hartwell (1855-1931), Emily Susan Hartwell (1859-1951), and Carrie Amelia Hartwell Tupper (1864-1959); Congregational missionaries and philanthropists in Foochow (Fuzhou), China, 1850s-1930s.
