Description
Knut Dahlander (Swedish, 1883-1933). "Country Road". Medium: oil on canvas. Signed lower right. Dimensions: 19" x 27". Comes framed: 23" x 31".This tree lined roadway with its strong mature branches are commonly seen in Sweden and most of Europe. It is a delightful bucolic image painted by Knut Dahlander a seriously trained academic painter. Dahlander was the son of a merchant. He studied art at Vermehren's painting school in Copenhagen 1906-1908 and under Johan Rohde at Kunstnernes Studieskole from 1909-1913. In the spring of 1909, he traveled with Oluf Høst on a long painting trip to Italy. During his active period, Dahlander held only one solo exhibition in 1926 in Malmö, but he participated in several peer exhibitions in Malmö and annually with Skåne's Art Association. Dahlandr was represented in several of Sweden's general art association exhibitions and in the Skåne exhibition that was shown at Liljevalch's art gallery in 1919. A memorial exhibition of his art was shown by the Skåne art association in 1934. Dahlander devoted himself to landscape painting, with scenes from Scania, but also painted portraits, still life and interior scenes. As a graphic artist, he also created linoleum cuts, lithographs and etchings. Dahlander’s work is in the National Museum in Stockholm.
