Description
A solemn guardian of the afterlife, this Egyptian shabti from the Late Period is enveloped in a vibrant turquoise glaze, symbolizing the rejuvenating waters of the Nile. Shabtis were placed in tombs to serve the deceased in the hereafter, performing any labor required of them in the Field of Reeds. The glazed terracotta composition and the hieroglyphic inscriptions invoke the magical practices intended to animate these figures in the afterlife. This shabti is a captivating embodiment of ancient Egyptian religious beliefs and their quest for immortality.
