Item Details
Description
An old reproduction of the famous marble bust of the Italian sculptor RAFFAELLE MONTI "THE VEILED LADY" depicting a girl covered with a veil.Dimensions: total height with stand 34 cm, width 21 cmCondition: generally good, there are some minor losses, as shown in the photo.Interesting fact: The image of the veiled virgin was very popular in Italy in the 19th century, thanks to the sculptor Giovanni Strazza, he was the first to "revive" marble and created a veil that was no different from real fabrics. This tendency was picked up by other famous masters of Italy at that time, including Raffaello Monti/Raffaello Monti (1818-1881), who in 1850 moved to live and work in England. There he created this work "Veiled Lady" (second name "Bride"), which was later purchased by the Duke of Devonshire and became part of the large collection of Chatsworth house. Due to the great interest in the sculpture at the end of the 19th century, many reproductions of it were created.
