A large Italian patinated bronze bust of King Nicomedes
mid 19th century
After the Antique, mounted on a giallo marble socle.
overall height 31in (79cm); width 16 1/2in (42cm); depth 13in (33cm)
Footnote:
This bust is a rendering of King Nicomedes I of Bithynia (reign 278-255 B.C.E.), formerly known as Ptolemy Alexander or Ptolemy Epiphanes. The example after this model was cast is Roman model from the 1st century C.E., found in the atrium in the Villa dei Papiri in Herculaneum in 1754 and is currently in the collection of the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli.

Condition
Re-patinated. With a very dark brown patina overall. Surface somewhat rough. General marks, nicks, scratches, rubbing and wear. Socle with oxidation, inherent flaws, cracks, chips, scattered losses and dirt accumulation.
