Gaston Longchamp was a set designer in the Parisian avant-garde ballet world, assisting Picasso with stage designs for the Ballet Russe and Chagall with scenery for Stravinsky's Firebird. He went on to work at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and designed sets for the American Ballet's Transcendence with choreography by George Balanchine which premiered in 1935 at the Adelphi Theatre.
