Description
Aesthetic Movement Chinese Style Teapot c.1875, 5 1/2"h, 8"l, modelled as a man in ceremonial dress pulling a sack over his shoulder, the neck of the sack forming the spout and a ribbon drawstring forming the handle. This design is inspired by the ancient image of Buddha carrying a sack which represents how a smiling Buddha gathers one's pain and anguish and places it in his sack before bestowing prosperity and optimism. The bag is also associated with prosperity and good fortune.
