Description

Vase c.1870, 21"h, 17"w, designed by Hughes Protat, modelled as a large nautilus decorated with a draped woman and cherubs to the front and crested by a seated woman above, all supported by two back to back mermen upon an oval base decorated with sea weed. An example was shown at the London International Exhibition 1862 and is illustrated in the Art Journal Catalogue.
