Havemeyer Descendants 2 Dozen Marked Silver Spoons Et Al 13ozt. 22 spoons and forks marked sterling incl 6 Gorham gilt front and back bowl grapefruits, 6 fancy Art Nouveau possibly parfait spoons, 4 Gorham salad forks and 5 misc spoons, demitasse, scoop or salt ect, together with 11 more spoons of which at least 2 are marked 800 silver which are not included in the aprox 13 troy ounces of the 22 sterling pieces of flatware but which complete the 2 dozen marked silver examples, also 2 additional with bowl interior hallmarks, some Italian and or Vatican souvenirs plus plated ice teas, banded mop, fruit knives and a plated spoon and fork.Provenance and Shipping: One of 25 lots in the sale from descendants of the Havemeyer family. One branch of the Havemeyers married into the Old Westbury, Long Island branch of the Vanderbilt Whitney family, coincidentally the source of the first 100 lots of this sale. These Havemeyer related lots come from the estate of Mrs Caroline Dodd Butts Kilbourne, late of Floridas Gulf Coast, with many of the present 25 lots descending from 19th century ancestors. Havemeyers were important figures in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Shelburne Museum. William Fredrick, Frederick the Christian and Henry Osborne Havemeyer ran American Sugar Refining that became Domino Sugar, whose corporate art collection we sold in an event with two NY appraisers in 1995 from their Long Ridge Road, Stamford, CT headquarters after it became Amstar Corporation.
