Item Details

Description

An Anglo-Chinese Brass Bound Camphorwood Captain's Chest, Mid 19th Century. The hinged lid enclosing an open box, with applied brass plaque inscribed 'Capt. Appleton'.

Dimensions: Height 20 1/4in; width 29 3/4in; depth 18 1/4in.

Provenance: Property from a New Jersey Collection.

Footnote: Possibly belonging to Nathan Appleton (1843-1906).

Condition

Structurally sound. Shrinkage, age cracks, heavy marks, wear, abrasions and surface scratches overall. There are some patches and minor re-building to the chest's lid at either side. Wear and toning to the brass mounts.
