Description
Ossip Zadkine (Belarusian/French, 1890-1967) "Visitors of the Sun"
Lithograph in colors. Signed (lower right). Numbered 70/125.
Sheet: 26 x 20 in.
Ossip Zadkine was a Russian- French artist of the School of Paris. He is best known as a sculptor, but also produced paintings and lithographs. He produced dramatic cubist-inspired sculptures of the human figure. In Paris, Zadkine became friends with several avant-garde artists, including Pablo Picasso. He developed a lyrical and expressive style, typically sculpting elongated figures with simplified features. Around 1917, he adopted a new approach in his drawings and sculptures, substituting his previously graceful and sensitive lines with a more angular approach influenced by Cubism.
