Marcel Vertes was a Hungarian born modern painter, printmaker, illustrator, and costume designer. After moving to Paris to study at the Academie Julian, Vertes established himself as one of the central figures of the Parisian art scene in the 20th century. Following in the footsteps of artists such as Henri de Toulouse- Lautrec and Jean-Louis Forain, Vertes became known for his lithographs and drawings of Parisian street scenes, nude portraits of women, and images of circus and cabaret acts that encapsulate the vibrancy of the 1920s.
