Signed Chinese Qianjiangcai Porcelain Teapot and Cover Depicting Two Beauties, Scholarly Symbols and Poem
Location of Manufacture: China
Period of Manufacture: Late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912)
Dimensions: 7"(h) , 5 1/2" from handle to spout
Weight: 1 pound
For your consideration is an interesting Chinese porcelain teapot depicting two beauties, scholar's objects and a poem. This tall, rectangular form is accented by a narrowing at its neck and a gently upward arching handle - the design really reaches for the heavens. The two panels that house the handle and the spout are covered with Chinese calligraphy as is the exterior of the lid. The other two panels are nicely decorated with beautiful female figures active in lush gardens with arching trees. The teapot is raised on (4) feet - one at each corner of the teapot.
Provenance: From a Retired Military Estate in San Antonio, Texas.
