Lot 71: Dame Joan Collins | Alexander Mcqueen Blazer

An Alexander McQueen blazer with an asymmetric embellished peplum worn by Dame Joan Collins at the 2018 British Academy Britannia Awards, October 26, 2018.

The McQueen blazer is from the label’s 2018 Pre-Fall collection, which was designed by creative director Sarah Burton. The tailoring and structure reference practices used on Savile Row, which McQueen would draw from when cutting and designing his runway and ready-to-wear garments. The structure of the blazer is contrasted by the drape of the exaggerated asymmetric peplum. Embellished with beaded applique, rhinestones, and fringe of jet-black bugle beads, which complement the matte wool fabric to give it a subtle/bold extravagance. The blazer is fully-lined, features fabric-covered buttons, single-breasted closure, and a satin shawl lapel; this piece has all the luxuries fit for a Dame’s red carpet look. There is an Alexander McQueen label present at the neckline, as well as garment and manufacture tags sewn at the side seams, marked a size 42.
