ERA: Short information:
Volodymyr Kryhatsky was born on June 8, 1877, in Odessa, into the family of Hryhoriy Kryhatsky, a railway official.
From 1896 to 1902, he studied at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics at Novorossiysk University, after which he worked at the customs for several years.
He received art education at M. Manilam's private art school and later studied at the Odessa Art School from 1897.
At different times, Volodymyr Kryhatsky took lessons from Odessa artists Holovkov, Turtsevich, and Naake.
From 1910 to 1917, he participated in spring exhibitions in Katerynoslav (now Dnipro), Yelisavetgrad (now Kropyvnytskyi), Kyiv, and Mykolaiv.
In 1913-1914, he took part in spring art exhibitions in Odessa.
From 1913 to 1920, he was a member of the Society of Southern Artists and the "United" society, serving on the board of the "Independent" society.
In 1925, he joined the artistic society named after Kyriak Kostandi.
Kryhatsky primarily painted landscapes.
In 1939-1940, Volodymyr Kryhatsky worked in the Odessa Artistic and Sculpture Workshops. He exhibited about 50 of his works at the first and second reporting exhibitions of the workshops.
In 1941, the Odessa Regional Department of Arts was preparing for a personal exhibition of Kryhatsky, but the war prevented the exhibition from taking place.
Volodymyr Kryhatsky was also a professional guitarist, learning from his father and later from the Greek Hadumoghli, who came from Constantinople and organized a folk instrument orchestra in Odessa.
As a musician, Kryhatsky was influenced by the virtuoso guitarist Goldberg, who visited Odessa in 1890, and Baron Georgiy Klodt, a student of Decker-Shenk, who moved from St. Petersburg to Odessa in 1903.
Kryhatsky played in a duet with his teacher for two years, and after Klodt's death in 1905, he organized a group of guitarists — the first Odessa guitar school.
Volodymyr Kryhatsky passed away on April 18, 1942, in Odessa at the age of 65.
The artist's works are housed in the Odessa Art Museum and in museum and private collections in Ukraine.
