Offered here for your consideration are two Model 1860 Army swords. The Model 1860 Light Cavalry saber is a long sword made of steel and brass, used by US Cavalry from the American Civil War until the end of the Indian wars. The M1860 received its name to distinguish it from the larger and heavier Model 1840, Heavy Cavalry saber, that it replaced. Like its predecessor it had a brass guard, leather-wrapped grip and steel scabbard but unlike the M1840 it was smaller and easier to handle. These swords are nice examples and would go well in your collection.
MAKER: One sword is stamped by Emerson & Silver of Trenton of NJ and bears the date 1865.
APPROX AGE: Antique (meaning made prior to the 1930s).
SIZE: Each sword is 41 1/2 inches overall and has a 37 1/2 inch blade.
CONDITION: Average to good for their age, normal wear and minor imperfections and some restoration expected. Please look closely at the pictures as they are an important part of our description and are hereby incorporated into the description, specifically with regards to condition.
