Description
1789 Captain James Cook Life & Voyages Australia New Zealand Hawaii Kippis
“Remember, the greater the opportunity, the fewer are those who see it.”
– James Cook
James Cook was an 18th-century British explorer known for his three major world voyages. The third Pacific voyage, which began in 1776, took Cook and his crew around New Zealand and Hawaii. On this trip, Cook became well-acquainted with the King of Hawaii, Kalani-opuu. After spending time in the South Pacific, Cook also took his ship northward to the Aleutian Islands reaching to the Arctic Circle. Cook eventually died upon his return to Hawaii, after angering the King of Hawaii.
A rare volume from the 1789 English edition of Life of Captain Cook. According to Cox,
“This work contains an admirable precis of the three voyages, with valuable information from the original sources. It introduces most of Samwells Narrative of Captain Cooks Death, and also gives accounts of the various tributes to Cooks memory, it also includes the biographies of Green the astronomer, Ledyard, the American Seaman, and Captain Clerke; as well as a notice of the various medals which were struck.”
