Not only was it created under the likely hand of William Billingsley or Samuel Walker but it exemplifies the sophisticated nature of the factory.
Each piece produced was made with intention and this inkwell was just that - an homage to the Great Scottish Poet Robert Burns (1759-1796).
Giving a twist on the Egyptian revival styling of the golden sphinx supports, faux marbleized base and inkwell stand intricately decorated with golden coral branches, a pink ground body, 3 feathered pen holders and a white pearl beaded edge.

For these years were some of the most fruitful time of his short life. Burns left his mark on the tiny Hermitage, scratching some lines from a poem onto a window with a diamond.
