Item Details
Description
Those familiar with the finest quality porcelains produced by the Worcester Warmstry House Factory will understand how exceedingly rare and impressive this inkwell truly is. Not only was it created under the likely hand of William Billingsley or Samuel Walker but it exemplifies the sophisticated nature of the factory.
Each piece produced was made with intention and this inkwell was just that - an homage to the Great Scottish Poet Robert Burns (1759-1796).
Giving a twist on the Egyptian revival styling of the golden sphinx supports, faux marbleized base and inkwell stand intricately decorated with golden coral branches, a pink ground body, 3 feathered pen holders and a white pearl beaded edge.
The body is something to look closely at:

Side 1 - THE REMAINS OF ALLOWAY KIRK (Alloway Auld Kirk) “Or catch'd wi' warlocks in the mirk, By Alloway's auld haunted kirk.” - Tam O’ ShanterA famous poem by Robert Burns.

Side 2 - Cottage Kirk Alloway Ayrshire - The Birthplace of Robert Burns.

Side 3 - Friar’s Carse, The Hermitage - Located within Friars Carse Hotel grounds, Robert Burns referred to the Burns Hermitage as the ‘livied cot’ where the poet came to talk with his friends at Friars Carse and to write poetry. For these years were some of the most fruitful time of his short life. Burns left his mark on the tiny Hermitage, scratching some lines from a poem onto a window with a diamond.

This piece is a piece of history and important for any Robert Burns or Flight Barr and Barr collector. Approx: 4.25" h x 5.625" w
