Description
(1899-1985) Philippine statesman and writer, served as a close aide to Douglas MacArthur during World War II and the re-taking of the Philippines, elected President of the U.N. General Assembly. Two items: an I.S.P. 7 x 4.5 in. sepia, shows Romulo with three other gentlemen, signed across middle: ‘To Robert L. James with the best wishes of Carlos Romulo’. Mounting remains on verso, a few creases at top and stains at left, not affecting signature. WITH: a T.L.S. 1p. 4to., Washington, Apr. 29, 1956, on Philippines Embassy letterhead to the same admirer, sending the photo. T.L.S. bears mounting tabs at bottom, clear of signature, as well as file holes at right margin. Two pieces.
