Description
(1894-1972) King of England whose abdication of the throne in order to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson rocked Great Britain and led to his spending the balance of his life in self-imposed exile. Suspected by many in British government and society of being Nazi sympathizers, after their visiting Germany and meeting with Adolf Hitler in 1937. Charming, early S.P. ‘H.R.H.’ ca. 1920s, 4 x 6 in. b/w, a portrait of the young prince by CARL BOHNEN, signed by Edward beneath: ‘To Mr. Fred J. Hall Cheerio! H.R.H. and Thank you for the buggy ride’. Additionally signed by Bohnen (1871-1951), American artist best known for his portraits. Mounting traces to verso, otherwise fine condition, a nice association piece.
