Description
Good lot of approx. 130 original photographs, most about 3 x 5 in., showing the deployment of French Foreign Legionnaires, almost certainly in Algeria ca. 1958-62. These images include the men being deployed by helicopter, in operations out in the field, in groups and parading, at an awards ceremony, the hostile, arid terrain, deployed armor, and enemy dead. Photos are generally in fine condition, mounted. The war caused the deaths of between 300,000 and 1,500,000 Algerians, 25,600 French soldiers, and 6,000 Europeans. War crimes committed during the war included massacres of civilians, rape, and torture; the French destroyed over 8,000 villages and relocated over two million Algerians to concentration camps.
