A colorful original poster measuring 21 x 30 in. and captioned ‘Warmly cheer for the publication of the fifth volume of ‘Selected Works of Mao Zedong’. This volume was published by Mao’s successor Hua Guofeng ca. 1977, one year after the leader’s death. Guofeng brought the Cultural Revolution of the last decade to a close, and began the modernization of China. He continued to publish propagandistic material in the style of Mao, and attempted to present himself as a legitimate heir to Mao’s ‘throne’, adopting the ideological precepts and corresponding aesthetic tropes. In this poster, smiling people welcome the publication of the new volume, edited by Guofeng himself. Very good.
