Pre-Columbian, Gulf Coast of Mexico, Veracruz (Vera Cruz) culture, ca. 3rd to 7th century CE. A hollow-built pottery figure with a massive head who stands atop bar-shaped feet while raising both arms towards the sky. The petite face protrudes from below the serrated coiffure and is flanked by tab-shaped ears while remains of red pigment are visible across the brow, hands, and hair serrations. Size: 2.5" L x 4.75" W x 6.875" H (6.4 cm x 12.1 cm x 17.5 cm)

Provenance: ex-collection of the late Peter Arnovick, San Francisco, California, USA, acquired before 1995

Condition
Small nicks and light abrasions, with one large spall on verso, chip to top of left hand, fading to pigment in scattered areas, and light earthen deposits, otherwise in great condition. Light remains of red pigment across head. Rattle balls within still creates noise when jostled.
