Description
Confederate paint decorated wooden drum canteen, having original metal bands and period leather strapping, painted ‘Blakely, Alabama,’ in yellow or muted gold on one side, the other side embellished with a large centered heart in the same paint. The paint decoration my indicate that this canteen was the property of someone from Blakely or it may indicate that it was taken a a souvenir of the battle for Fort Blakely in April 1865.

Condition
Good wood tone, mostly complete, leather strap with age cracks and missing a small piece at the buckle end, wear commensurate with age, with the usual separations between the wood slats, no paint in the separations of the slats showing the piece
