Description
'Mt. Vernon from the Potomac.' Oil on canvas. Signed and dated 1869, bottom left. 12 x 18"; 22 x 28" (framed). There are remnants of the 19th-century artist supply house label (which appears to be a "Boston" company) on the top stretcher bar. Housed in a period frame. Provenance: Gertrude Grace Sill (1920–2020) was an American art historian, curator, professor, and author of "John Haberle Master of Illusion," among other art historical publications.
