Description
Southern China or Vietnam, late 19th century. The vase of compressed globular form, tapering towards the foot, and surmounted by a short straight neck, painted to the exterior in underglaze blue with two fish in a lotus pond interspersed with aquatic plants and framed by double lines, covered overall in a creamy white glaze suffused with crackles.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and firing flaws, including dark spots, and small firing cracks.
Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. Istvan Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
