Description
Early 19th Century, empire ormolu and marble Diana Chariot mantle clock. Crafted from verde Antico marble, ormolu and enamel, the base is raised on six ormolu toupee feet. The face of the base is mounted with an encompassing beaded frieze and set to the front with an ornate rondeau. The rondeau is centered with a putto blowing twin horns and the scrolls of its leafing vines are draped with symbols of music and the arts, such as pan flute and dramatic masks. The base is surmounted by a large ormolu sculptural group of the Roman goddess Diana, who hunts with her drawn bow from chariot pulled by twin hounds who prance over a dead game bird. The facing wheel of the chariot serves as the clocks chapter ring which is wrought from parcel gilt blue enamel with the Roman numeral hour indices contained within faux white cartouches. Excellent condition, includes bell, pendulum and harness for one of the dogs needs reattached. There is a 60 above the 12, a 15 next to the 3, a 30 below the 6 and a 45 next to the 9. Measures 7.5" x 21.7" x 19.3".
