Description
Pre-Columbian bone weaving tool decorated with an incised figure. The figure, possibly a Chieftain or religious personage, is depicted in a stylized, abstracted manner with a large head, wearing a headdress and full detailed body form. Probably from the Chancay culture, circa 1000 - 1400 CE.
Length: 9" (23 cm)
Width (at top): 3/4" (2 cm)
CONDITION: Good condition with wear and an ancient surface patina.
PROVENANCE: Purchased from Carlos Newell (Peruvian) on 3/23/1989 in San Francisco by the present consignor. (see lots 35, 36 & 37 for other pieces with this provenance)
