Description
Needlework sampler/picture wrought by Elizabeth Smith. Probably New England, circa 1825. Depiction of harvest fruit and vegetables, and a shepherdess under a tree with her dog . Sheep, goats and a pair of love birds in the top center. A four line moral maxim is below this, flanked by a dove and a butterfly on each side. Includes three folders of relevant information about Elizabeth Smith and this sampler. Frame: H 21-1/2" W 19-1/2". Sight: H 19-3/4" W 17-3/4". Condition: Professionally framed. Excellent condition. The sheep may be missing some of their coats. The goats are not. At one point the sampler had been tacked to a frame or stretcher. Those holes are visible along the bottom edge.
