Item Details
Description
Ancient Egypt, 26th Dynasty, ca. 664 to 525 BCE. A superb and quite large bronze of Osiris Iah, shown seated as if upon his throne, arms bent at the elbow and right hand clenched, positioned with palm down as if holding a scepter. He wears a Nemes crown with a royal Uraeus cobra, a solar disc with a crescent moon beneath, and an Atef crown adorned with ostrich feathers and twisting ram horns. Iah was an older deity of the moon that was replaced in popularity during the New Kingdom by the gods Thoth and Khonsu. The base has two panels of hieroglyphics on the left and forward sections, each condensed and illegible. The details of this example are extraordinary with finely detailed skirt, long wig flowing to each side. Size: 2.2" W x 8.9" H (5.6 cm x 22.6 cm); 9.8" H (24.9 cm) on included custom stand.

XRF analysis shows the metal composition to be 98% copper, 1.2% tin with traces of lead and zinc - consistent with other bronzes of the period.
