BIOGRAPHY:
Frederick James Boston (1855-1932) was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He studied under J. B. Whittaker at the Adelphi College, Brooklyn and then under Carolus Duran in Paris in the 1880's. He was the first instructor of art at the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences (the fledgling Brooklyn Museum) and founded and served as president of the Painters and Sculptors Club. He exhibited work in many galleries in Manhattan as well as at the National Academy of Design, the Brooklyn Art Association, the Brooklyn Society of Artists, the Society of Independent Artists and the Salmagundi Club.
