Description
Two (2) works on paper published by Gazette des Beaux-Arts. 1st item: Eugene Delacroix (French, 1793-1863) lithograph entitled Femmes d'Alger or Women of Algeria and depicting two women relaxing in an interior setting, 1833. Signed in the stone, lower left, and titled, lower margin. With printed text in lower margin reading "Gazette des Beaux Arts" and "Imp. Bertauts Paris. The second state of two. Ref.: Delteil 97 ii/ii. With Tomlinson Collection, Baltimore, MD label affixed to backing. Housed under plexiglass in a speckled and gilt wood frame with ivory textile mat. Sight: 7 1/4" H x 9 7/16" W. Frame: 17" W x 18 1/2" W. 2nd item: Paul Cesar Helleu (French, 1859-1927) drypoint etching entitled Liseuse or The Reader and depicting a woman reading in a darkened space, possibly the artist's wife Alice Helleu. A very good impression with strong burr in the dark background. Originally published in the January 1892 Gazette de Beaux-Arts. With old label affixed to backing. Housed under plexiglass in a gilt wood frame with cream mat. Plate: 9 1/4" H x 6 1/8" W. Sight: 9 1/2" H x 6 3/16" W.
Condition
Both prints in apparently very good overall condition. 2nd item with even toning to sheet and abrasion to mat, center left. Not examined outside of frames.
