Description
This is a Piece of Functional Art which was rescued from a Chicago Building. It is so large, you could stand 9 or 10 people around it. Everything about this piece reflects quality, from the wood, to the scopes, to the brass ornamentation. It depicts the earth in its state 200 million years ago, with the continents just starting to drift apart. There are buildings situated on the map, where major cities exist today. The entire surface turns, with the aid of a small brass crank on the side of the bowl. The scopes on the sides are functional, but only seem to focus on certain areas of the map. There is a little compass under each scope. There is a large porthole on the side, but its function is unknown. The piece is in very good overall condition. It is not signed, but we have a photo of a bronze plaque which was made for it, stating it was made by Grant McCune Studio. As of now, the plaque itself is missing. The piece is in very good overall condition. It stands 43" tall, and measures 6 1/2' in Diameter. It is extremely heavy, requiring a minimum of 4 experienced men to move it. It comes in two pieces - the base and the bowl. This is truly an unusual piece, reminiscent of war room models, similar to the giant topographical map in the HBO Westworld series. It is the ultimate conversation piece, for those who have the space for it. Third-party freight shipping or personal pickup is required. Please see our website for our shipping recommendations.
