A Carved wooden staff or handle with two janus mask like faces and a well worn deep patina from handling. The heads are defined by slanted, slit-form eyes and classic mask like faces. Traditionally Kedie are important ceremonial objects used by village leaders to assist in the judgment of others actions, and are kept in special shrines when not in use. The sculpture measures 12 inches tall x 3 inches wide. Dan peoples, Ivory Coast, West Africa. Provenance: Ex Robert Banks collection, MD.
