Getulio Alviani is an important figure in the realm of optical-kinetic art. Born in Udine, Italy, he worked in a variety of mediums, including painting, printmaking and metalwork. He started life as a architectural designer, which ultimately inspired some of his first works in optical art. He was shown at the 1964 Venice Biennale, "The Responsive Eye" show at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1965 and 4. documenta in Kassel, Germany in 1968.
