Item Details
Description
Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate Period, 21st to 25th Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 664 BCE. A mold-formed faience amulet depicting a striding baboon with its left leg present just slightly further than its right leg. The slender simian features fine linear patterns representing fur across the composition, and the entire figurine is enveloped in a layer of turquoise-hued glaze. The baboon is typically seen as a more-uncommon mammalian representation of the typically ibis-headed god Thoth. Size: 0.5" L x 0.32" W x 1.24" H (1.3 cm x 0.8 cm x 3.1 cm)
