Description
Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, 21st to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. An incredible limestone funerary stele of ovoid form carved with elaborate figures and rows of hieroglyphs. The main scene features a left-facing man named Harsitoyef who raises offerings of incense to Osiris, god of the Underworld, and behind him Isis, goddess of healing and magic. Osiris presides in the middle in classic mummiform pose, holding a heka scepter and flagellum, and wearing an Atef crown; Isis dons the crown of Hathor while raising one hand. Above the figural trio is a winged scarab enclosed between parallel striations, and below the figures are 4 full rows as well as 2 partial rows of inscribed hieroglyphs bestowing blessings upon the deceased. Size: 2.25" L x 7.75" W x 18.5" H (5.7 cm x 19.7 cm x 47 cm); 20.5" H (52.1 cm) on included custom stand.
