DESCRIPTION:

This lot is a Dye Based Photolithograph, and is a restoration print, produced 'after' the original photograph. Rather than being a one-of-a-kind work, it is an open edition, non-commercial sheet-fed mechanical print, analagous to the process used for sheet-fed photogravures. The paper is 215 GSM, 12 MIL Matte, Light Fast and Acid Free. It is enclosed in a polypropolene, archival presentation pocket and reinforced before shipping

BIOGRAPHY :: General Ulysses S. Grant (born Hiram Ulysses Grant, April 27, 1822 – July 23, 1885). While he was still serving in the army in 1863 he led the Vicksburg campaign, which gained control of the Mississippi River, dealing a serious strategic blow to the Confederacy, splitting it in two. President Abraham Lincoln promoted him to lieutenant general after his victory at Chattanooga. For thirteen months, Grant fought Robert E. Lee during the high-casualty Overland Campaign and at Petersburg. After Lee fled Petersburg, Grant defeated him at Appomattox. On April 9, 1865, Lee formally surrendered to Grant. A week later Lincoln was assassinated.

Having led the Union Army to victory in the American Civil War in 1865, Ulysses S. Grant briefly served as Secretary of War, before becoming the 18th PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES FROM 1869 to 1877. As president, Grant was an effective civil rights executive who created the Justice Department and worked with Radical Republicans to protect African Americans during Reconstruction. He furthermore urged the ratification of the Fifteenth Amendment (which prohibits the federal government and each state from denying or abridging a citizen's right to vote on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude). It was ratified on February 3, 1870 as the third and last of the Reconstruction Amendments.
