BIOGRAPHY :: Herman Heyn was the son of Meyer and Hannchen Heynmann Heyn, and was from the region of Hannover, Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen), in Germany. Heyn became an important portrait photographer in Omaha, Nebraska, from the 1880s through the 1920s. He is nationally noted for more than 500 images he created of Native Americans, mostly Sioux, in 1898 or 1899. His original prints are highly sought after by collectors. Herman operated as Lumiere Studio in the early 1900s. His images of William Howard Taft and William Jennings Bryan are preserved in the Minnesota Historical Society.
