Item Details
Description

1981 Toyota BJ42 Land Cruiser Chassis no. BJ4200900238 • Belgian delivery from new • Believed only 2 owners • 168,000 km • Present current ownership since the mid 1980s * Please note that this car will be available for viewing by prior appointment in Belgium. There is a phrase that says, 'If you want to go into the desert take a Land Rover, but if you want to go into the desert and come out again, take a Land Cruiser.' The third-generation, 40-series Land Cruiser was launched in 1960 and remained in production for a remarkable 51 years. Certainly, from its launch the Land Cruiser developed a cast-iron reputation for reliability and examples such as this 1981 BJ42, which was a two-door short-chassis model introduced in 1980 with a 3.4-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, are virtually indestructible unless your sole intention is destruction. The Land Cruiser's popularity and utility are reflected in the number of iterations in which it was built. There were in fact so many that it is probably impossible to identify all of them. This comprehensively restored example is thought to have been ordered new in Kortrijk, Belgium, by a locally known family who used the car from 1981 up to 1985, covering a little over 100,000 kms. The car was sold in the mid-1980s to the current owner... so, effectively, it has had just 2 owners from new. In common with many owners of the famously unbreakable Land Cruiser, the vendor has used his primarily for hunting trips. Always kept in good running order for the following 30 years, the vendor decided to cosmetically restore the car completely and to the highest standard a couple of years ago. Understandably, he has not used it for hunting since and the car has been dry-stored in a warm garage. The car starts, runs, drives and stops as you would hope and expect, and is in the kind of rare condition that should interest serious collectors on both sides of the Atlantic. The car comes with current Belgian registration documents, a Belgian Certificate of Conformity and an owners' handbook.
