DUMMY CANOPIC JAR WITH THE HEAD OF IMSETY, Third Intermediate Period. This jar, with the human-headed lid, represents the deity Imsety, protector of the liver. The dummy canopic jar was an important element of the burial in most periods of Ancient Egyptian history. Canopic jars were containers in which the separately mummified organs would be placed. The human-headed Imsety was the guardian of the liver. This dummy jar has no interior cavity and the "lid" is not removable. - Height: 10 inches.
