Description
EVERETT SHINN
Dancing Goddesses. Oil on board, c. 1910. 540x1346 mm; 21 1/4x53 inches (framed). Signed and dated, "E. Shinn / 1910" in lower right image. This llustration was acquired by John Hallgren, a skilled carpenter who worked for the world famous Estey Organ Co. in Battleboro Vermont, and whose mother, Louisa Johnson, worked for the Esteys as a personal maid. It was speculated that the Estey family owned numerous Shinn paintings, and sold them at auction which is where this was believed to be purchased. Shinn was a member of the Cornish Art Colony and summered there, eventually buying 18 acres of land and building a colonial home in Windsor Vermont, which along with Plainfield and Cornish N.H. made up the Colony.
